In August I was in upstate New York getting away from NYC for a long weekend. August in New York state is one of the most beautiful things I’ve experienced. Being from the south where August is feels like a flamethrower, a day in the Adirondacks is heaven. Add in a private lake and plenty of wine and cheese, and I’m set for life!

The setting for my shoot – Friend’s Lake, a private lake – just up the NY Thruway from where I live in New Jersey. We stayed at the Fern Lodge, and if you have a chance to stay here it’s absolutely serene. And because there’s not much to do in the area you won’t mind that it’s so secluded. It’s the perfect romantic retreat or setting for a small wedding.

The gear I brought to shoot abstract macro shots: Canon 50D, Kenko extension tubes, my trusted 50mm lens, and a filter to protect my lens. I found every flower, bush, cropping of grass and rocks I could shoot into to get a lot of my favorite abstract macro photos.
